Who's Speaking?
Chad Blair, Honolulu Civil Beat
Chad Blair has been a writer, editor, and teacher in Honolulu for more than 20 years. His job as reporter for Honolulu Civil Beat is to cover Hawaii, especially how political decisions impact people and communities. Chad has worked as a journalist for Pacific Business News, Hawaii Public Radio and Honolulu Weekly. He has taught at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu Community College, Hawaii Pacific University and Chaminade University of Honolulu. Chad earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in American studies from UH Manoa. His dissertation, “Democracy in Hawaii: Class, Race and Gender in Local Politics” (1996), was published as “Money, Color and Sex in Hawaii Politics” (Mutual Publishing; 1998).
Beth-Ann Kozlovich, Hawaii Public Radio
Beth-Ann Kozlovich is the executive producer of talk shows for Hawaii Public Radio (HPR), where she develops and oversees HPR’s locally-produced talk programs. Kozlovich created and currently co-hosts several shows on HPR2, including Town Square, HPR's longest-running live public affairs forum, which launched in 1999 and airs every Thursday at 5 p.m., and The Conversation, which launched in 2011 and airs daily at 8 a.m. In 2011, she was the recipient of the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Hawaii Media Award, and in 2007 was awarded the NAMI Hawaii Jean Butler Chapin SEA Award and the Hawaii Psychological Association Media Award. Her attraction to public radio began when it was the only car-accessible, parent-approved station…so all of this really is her mother’s fault.
Dr. John Hart, Hawaii Pacific University
John Hart, Ph.D. is the chair and professor of communication at Hawaii Pacific University. He claims he is “usually only seen in the media when a politician makes a mistake.”  A rhetorician and nationally recognized former debate coach, Hart has been a political commentator and media watcher for the past thirty five years in local and major market media. Rolling Stone Senior Writer, David Fricke, considers Hart "a great friend and a superb, much admired educator... for his knowledge of the media and the breadth and quality of his contacts in the music and media industries." Hart is the only professor in Hawaii to win a CLIO, the Academy Awards of the advertising industry.
