Job Objective & Summary
The Assistant Manager of Public Relations & Promotions is responsible for coordinating Aqua-Aston’s publicity programs to targeted audiences. They use every available communication medium to maintain the support of consumers, stakeholders, the public, ownership groups and employees. They are the eyes and ears of top management and have the company’s brand image top of mind. They think big, make things happen with the media, clients and prospects, all while giving positive energy and keeping a cool head. In addition, they are responsible for nurturing creative partnerships with businesses, community-based programs and organizations that elevate Aqua-Aston’s profile in the local, national and international marketplace. They are a liaison with hotel management and other corporate departments, and implement successful promotional initiatives including sponsorships.

Aqua-Aston Hospitality is a leading hotel and resort management group. Based in Waikiki, we manage close to 50 properties, from hotel and resorts to condos and villas on all four of the major Hawaiian Islands, and in the continental U.S.

Essential Functions

  • Work with the Director of Public Relations and Promotions to develop and execute a PR plan that addresses business goals and objectives
  • Work with the marketing team to develop and implement integrated campaigns
  • Implement media relations, sponsorships, and promotional programs 
  • Organize and lead on-site press tours
  • Assist with crisis communications and issue management
  • Develop and maintain solid relationships with journalists and social influencers
  • Brainstorm creative ideas for strategy; Identify stories and pitches 
  • Write press releases, media alerts, photo captions, advertorials, newsletters, blogs
  • Conduct competitive and marketplace research
  • Stay on top of current industry news, trends and technology; attend events; network
  • Support Executive Committee in PR-related business needs, including the preparation of written materials and support of external speaking engagements and presentations 
  • Manage press kit materials utilized by the public relations agency and the company directly
  • Track, measure and report monthly public relations and media impact
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the Director of Public Relations and Promotions
  • Assist with managing the budget, filing and processing invoices, making arrangements for hosted accommodation, and other office tasks

Qualification Standards

  • The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • A desire to learn and grow professionally
  • Self-motivated and able to juggle multiple projects; ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing sponsorships, events, and promotions 
  • 4+ years of public relations agency or in-house PR experience relating to travel/hospitality, lifestyle PR and/or corporate communications
  • Undergraduate degree 
  • Proven experience implementing PR campaigns and experience in crisis and issue management 
  • Ability to write many documents (i.e. pitch letters, press releases, newsletters, awards entries, etc.) 
  • Must have the ability to build collaborative relationships with internal (e.g. property associates, off-property sales channels) and external (e.g. existing and potential accounts/customers) stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of social networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.)
  • Online community management experience (Facebook page or group administrator, forum administrator, etc.) a plus
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the media, including industry-appropriate journalists and influencers
  • Knowledge of Cision is a plus
  • Knowledge of WordPress, Google Analytics, and search engine optimization are a plus
  • Some Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) experience is desirable.
